Proud owner of a new to me 94XP, previous owner had laid it up after summer of 09, and then it sat until I got it just recently. Pulled plugs, found them fouled, put some trans fluid down the spark plug holes and let it sit for couple of weeks, replaced battery, replaced fuel lines (they had dried out to the point where they were brittle and cracking). Drained fuel out of tank, and drained oil (blue in color unknown brand) serviced oil tank with Sea Doo mineral based oil, changed oil filter (man those things are expensive $18 and change from Sea Doo dealer, any reasonably priced suggestions on this????) put fresh gas in. Turned it over by hand to see if it was seized and to work the trans fluid around and lube walls before hitting starter. Then cranked with starter to try and blow any trans fluid out. Put new plugs on, cranked it watched fuel flow down new lines and then it lit off. LOTS of white smoke, which I am guessing is the trans fluid burning off. Noticed the oil light on the dash was on, so shut it off till I could verify what this light was indicating. Looked through owners manual and found this light indicated oil level in tank, so I assume the oil injection is working.
Rapped on the throttle a couple of times and no miss found, hoping that when the ski was laid up that carbs were ran dry so that no gas sat in them and ate up any seals or that marine gas was used so that it did not have any alcohol in it to do damage.
After preliminary start up have couple of questions:
1) How do I troubleshoot oil quantity light, any known issues with them?
2) Tach at first was reading 4,000 RPM regardless of engine speed and then went down to about 3200, any suggestions on troubleshooting this?
And last, any suggestions on what I should do maintenance wise on bringing this ski back to life.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and looking forward to becoming an active member of this forum. Pictures to follow.
