New Owner! Got a (Hopefully) really good deal on two PWC's

Hey Guys, this is my first post on here. I just picked up two 2-Stroke PWC's. A 1996 GTX, and 1997 GTI.

The 1996 GTX Starts and runs seemingly well out of water. The only thing I have changed on it was the spark plugs, as the old ones looked pretty nasty. I want to do a good once-over of the engine and all components before I put i in the water to make sure it's in good shape. This is the first time I have ever worked on a PWC, but I am mechanically inclined, and good with directions. Where would you guys recommend to start with on this? I'm not wanting to sink a ton of money into it, but I don't even know if the oil pump works, or if the previous owner was pre-mixing.

The 1997 GTI was a bit more of a gamble. It has no keys, but does show power through the red light on the instrument panel. I have not even been able to see if it has compression, as the starter appears to be somewhat buried? I contacted local dealers around me, and nobody services anything older than 10 years. Is there any way I can maybe remove the MPEM and ship it out to have new keys programmed? Does anybody have a contact on here that does that? I will most likely disassemble this one pretty far to see its condition, but I'd like to at least see if it has compression before I go wasting a bunch of time on it. Does anyone know how to get it to crank without keys?

Any help is appreciated, I'm logged onto this on my work PC and haven't had the time to start on the PWC's at home yet, but I will get logged into my personal PC as well later tonight.

Thank you!

You call download the shop manuals for these skis at seadoomanual.net. The manual will have a maintenance section you could read over. Don't run them out of the water for more than 20-30 seconds, the carbon ring that seals the driveshaft will overheat and can be ruined. There is no need to hook up a cooling hose if you don't run it very long out of the water.
The shop manual will have schematics. You can crank the GTI by shorting across the start solenoid with a insulated handle screwdriver to check compression. Hold the throttle full open while cranking and short the plug wires to the shorting block.

Also check for grey factory fuel lines. If present should be changed out immediately and carbs rebuilt following Mikidymac's thread at top of this forum. Miki also had a thread of what to look for when buying a seadoo but I can't seem to locate it.
