It's a gamble either way now..even brand new.. No return on electrical parts.
I personally would gamble and hope for the best vs trying to try and cobble two other mpems in.
It's 50/50 chance.

Well my idea is simple. Pull complete wiring from 2 ski's and run each one completely separate of each other. I am not talking about trying to wire them into the existing harness, they will be completely separate from the accessories and the rest of the boat.

Ok so a little research and the help of a guru goes a long way. I now have a game plan. I will be ordering a complete 1995 seadoo xp 717 electronic box that has complete wiring. This is plug and play for my engine type and gets rid of DESS. So dumbing it down is the way to go. It doesn't get any more simple than that. 2 power wires, 2 grounds and it should fire up.

No idea. That's beyond me. I would think you still need the MPEM connected, otherwise nothing else will work on the boat???...
Feel free to correct me guys.

the 95 xp electronic box has an mpem for engine functions and gauges. I will have to leave the old mpem plugged in for the accessories to work.

lol yeah i did but the case is still intact, should be able to mount it back in to it the case and epoxy it in, then just plug it back up.

I am wondering if these units can be reverse engineered & rebuilt with new components. A friend of mine I work with is a eletronic engineer...he might be able to build new 1's if he had the blueprints, schematics, ect....maybe even some burt up units to work with.
Since seeing this post and how hard they are to find I was going to have him look at mine and build a replacement unit as well...just incase. Anyhow he says they souldnt be that technical and not that hard to replicate. Just a idea here.

Yes it can be done he says...but starting out fresh, it will take some time to do. Since these are becoming obsolete, he'll need units to work with to build new ones. We're talking about starting a project here to rebuild or remake these units, build in added protection and maybe even build a universal one. So I'll post it up in tech articles and see where it goes.

That was going to be my suggestion, get rid of the dess, you can find the mpems/box on pwctoday for sale section and ebay, no reason to by new...

Yeah I quit trying to deal with that guy, sent him numerous emails and got a very generic response, haven't had a reply from him in over a week now. Sometimes u just have to do things yourself.
