New Chanpion Sparkplug breaks, then chips piston

I am so pissed. I put new plugs in the 98 gtxl driving it and the engine cut out at 6000, took it home, pulled plugs and the new sparkplug ground was oxiidized and tip was gone. The rest of plug looked great, took off raves and the piston is shiny, walls good but the top of piston on edge is chipped and ring land is showing. I think SBT uses 81.5mm, can I just replace both pistons with another brand that is 81.5, I will check skirt to wall clearance and consider a rebore if necessary?

Sure it wasn't the other way around??

If it was the center electrode, and the ceramic was missing... OK. But if the ground is missing... there's a good chance that the piston cracked, and hit the plug.

Regardless... pull the jug, and replace the one piston if there's not a lot of time on the engine.

May want to stick with ngk plugs as well

this one has the solid top not the screw top

I pulled the jugs and the piston has a light scoring. The motor is an SBT and the pistons had no coating on them. I also saw no chamfer on the ports. The pistons have a 1 stamped on them so I assume they are 1 mm over and I have a slight scoring on the cylinder wall. I am really f ing pissed. I have oil injection and the carbs are great and use amsoil and this shouldn't happen. I did replace the champions with ngk and skil runs good but I couldn't take a change running it and causing more damage.

the pistons are 1 mm over already, it may be cheaper to get the top end kit because I need new gaskets. I have the spark plug and take a picture and for you if you want.

Sure... post pics... it's easier to diagnose what may have happened.

Yea, 1of500 , I had intermittent spark on my spx when I bought it, changed plugs 3 times, cut plug wires, changed wires out completely, finally read somewhere that vibration can loosen the screw on caps even if they're tight and can cause an unstable connection.. Switched to solid tip BR8's, and it NEVER happened again
