95 xp800 alright... im gonna start off on how things went down. excited that i got my steering problem fixed... i decided to try to start the jet ski and nothing worked...seemed like it had a dead battery (which was weird.. only hadnt used it for a couple weeks because of the steering issue)..so i charged it a bit...and it started to crank....ok yeah dead battery.. so i leave it on the charger..since it has an auto shut off (suppose to anyways) when its done charging...so then my girl tells me when im at work... that the battery is smoking and she unplugged the charger (oh great)... i come home to find that the VTS system is smoking..not the battery.. so i pull the motor..and unplug the VTS system.. well it wouldnt start with the VTS system unplugged.. so i plugged it in without the motor...and it still smokes.. so i thought wtf.

anyways to keep it short.. it eventually stopped smoking... when i put my key in it wouldnt beep..and wouldnt start...fuel and battery light on constant...even without the key...unless i unplugged VTS. i started looking on the forum..and MPEM problems (oh great again)...and decided to pull open the front electrical box.. yes...the 5 amp fuse is blown... so i replaced that...and noticed just the fuel light stayed on...decided to try it out..key beeped..and it turned over (yay)...i unplugged the VTS right away (still without the motor in it)...fuel light went off when the key wasnt on anymore (woo hoo).. and everything seems to work normal...

so now my questions are... am i alright with the VTS unplugged? am i going to blow the MPEM?...because that sounds like something i DO NOT want to do. i think im alright...im pretty sure thats the main issue...and i know a few weeks ago...i opened the VTS cover and it was filled with water.. it never worked since i got them back in june... who knows how long they were like that...but i havent had any issues until now.

and my other question...i DO NOT CARE about the VTS system...at all... so.. can i leave the motor out?.. and just turn the knob thing when i feel i have to...or is it best to leave it in there unplugged?

any advice...greatly appreciated.. i love this forum and all the answers i find...i thought i was totally screwed on this one... but then again.. every problem i have it think that.. but then i find the info i need here and get it going for the next problem ;)

thanks

Brett

Symtoms suggest water found its way into the module on vts houseing. Yes, you can simply unplug the VTS. open the oval cover and jumper the battery to point the nozzel slightly down and leave it there. If the rubber boot next to the jetpump is
leaking, it can fill the ski when rideing.
