I just bought a 2004 SeaDoo GTX limited supercharged and I tops out at 52 on a good day (according to its speedo). With 185 HP I am dissapointed. The hull looks like it has been beached a thousand times and it is totally worn to the fiber glass along the entire the center. Does this explain the lack of speed? I dont know when it was last tuned, but when I bought it the dealer had it checked out and said it was mechanically sound. It should go faster than that, right? Please help!

What's your RPM's?
Does the motor run good or is it bogging?
Have you checked the jet pump and wear ring?

My money it on the wear ring!!
Look inside the jet pump and see if there is excessive clearance between the prop and the wear ring. The thickness of a dime is almost too much.

I am completely new to this, but in my opinion the motor is running good. It fires right up, it is pretty quick off the line and the RPM's are about 7,800 if i am remembering right. It is not bogging down.

How do you know it is only going 52mph?
Is everyone on the Lake passing you or are you keeping up?
Do you think it could be a bad reading speed-o? Those speed-o's are usually not very accurate
Maybe check with a gps for more accurate speed.

Also with those kind of RPM's, if you are not keeping up with other skis then I would say it is the wear ring.

I dont really know, but it doesnt feel any faster than that. It has a digital reading and a "mechanical" speedo, they both read 52 but I dont know if they are the same reading or not.

But what is normal? I was thinking closer to like 65- 70 mph...

Thank you very much for your help. I am sure it is obvious that I am new at this.

Yeah I have a stock 99GTX and it is quick for stock. My digital says 64mph, which is a stretch to say the least. Most of the 2004 year models and up can overtake me when we are at WOT.

I'm betting that you need to service your jet pump. I don't know how mechanical you are, but I would either download a service manual for the ski and service it yourself, or have the jet pump serviced by someone.

Take a flashlight and shine it in the end of the jet pump. Then look up under the ski through the grate and see how much light is around the edge of the impeller. If it looks like it is excessive (no more than a dime thickness) then I would say that the wear ring will need replacing. They wear out often and by replacing it and servicing your jet pump at the same time will make a huge difference in your speed and hole shot.

Have you checked your supercharger, 52 mph on the speedo is kind of the magic number when the sc clutch fails. Do you hear it whine when revving? It kind of takes a trained ear. Remove the sc hose and see if it spins free, I'll bet it does. Those ceramic sc clutches tend to fail from 50-100 hrs depending on use. It should go about 62mph on speedo if everything is good.

I called the dealer who sold this ski to me. We have a 30 day mechanical warranty and he said to bring it on in, they will fix it no charge. Thanks to your help I sounded like I knew what I was talking about. Thanks for all of your help!
