I just bought 2 1997 used GTX Seadoos. I went to the lake this weekend and rode them for around 4 hours and then we stopped and took a break. When I started them back up the RPMs were a little jumpy and about 30 mins in they wouldn't go over 3000 RPM at full throttle and I was just puttering along on the lake then mine died. It would start back up for about 3 seconds then it would die again as soon as I would give it gas. I need help please

are you having trouble with both ski's or just one?

What is the max RPM before and after you started having trouble?

Do you have grey fuel lines?

Do you know last time the RAVE valves were cleaned?

I have a 99 GSX and had issues similar to this and that's why i ask and RAVE was to blame several times and now i am in mist of repairing a RAVE/Fuel line issue that caused my ski to run like crap

and both of them are having the problem but mine is the only one that actually died and wouldn't start back up

I am not sure what the max RPM that I got up too but I did give it full throttle and we were going and average of around 55 mph. I will have to check the fuel lines are they suppose to be grey?

the RAVE valves are 2 valves in your ski that when the ski hits high RPM they open up and allow more exhaust to leave the engine and therefore more power. These become built up with carbon deposits and will stick and not open properly therefor limiting power. I dont know what RPMs they operate at on your ski but my 951 motor its 5-7k, if they dont open i wont go above 5000RPM. So these definitely need inspected and/or cleaned. They are relatively simple to do.

The gray fuel lines the put in the 1990's watercraft Bombardier made had a bad reputation for dissolving in the gas and clogging your fuel system, (fuel filter, fuel filters in the carb, and carb's up with a nice goo as its called on this forum) if you have grey gas lines they could be the cause of your problem also. And as a note if you do have them, they need to be replaced with some black automotive ones because if your not having clog/build up issues yet it will happen and starve your ski for gas = less power problem running.

if you need help we are here, it is pretty easy to do RAVES, fuel lines im sitting outside doing now, my carb filters where horrible, the fuel lines are a bit more tricky but we can walk anyone through it! and welcome to the best place on the internet for sea doo owners!!

Read about those grey lines and take some time to be sure your fuel system is working well, it causes more burnt up pistons and then cranks fail from the metal falling inside, if you are a DIY person you save 400bux to change them and the motor also. Seadoo Snipe has several good articles to get you going in the right direction on the 787 motor.

I know this may seem obvious but did you put oil in the ski's? Since it wasn't mentioned and you said you were a new owner I thought I would ask. There might have been enough oil to get you going but may have run low during your session. I have two 96 gtx's and they use oil at a similiar rate.

It would be good to know what oil the other owner used, mixing oil can make jello and then the oil will not flow thru the pump and the small lines from the pump to the rv cover nozzles area, do a little research by reading here, if the lines are grey and you can change them over one at a time, plan an afternoon, once you do one the others will go a lot easier and as you remove them you may see some of that goo, it looks like the stuff used to seal letters shut when they fold junk mail and it sticks to your hands and everything. clean out the bowl filter under the handlebars also and put a little dab of oil on that ring seal so it can not skid off to the side when you put the bowl back on, any air leak is a troublemaker as much as a fuel leak is dangerous..
