Hey Guys,
I've currently got my 1998 speedster apart in the garage and i need some advice on the condition of the impellers. I've having a huge problem with what i think is cavitation. I took the boat in to the shop last year, they did over $2000 dollars worth of work and still didn't fix the problem. The replaced both wear rings, the carbon rings, cleaned the carbs, serviced everything, etc. I took the boat to the cottage and the problem was still there. The boat takes over 15 seconds to plane out and if you have more then 2 people it won't plane out at all. Anyways, thanks to this forum, your advice, and the shop manual, I'm going to try and fix the problem myself. I have the pump housing off both engines, and comparing one impeller to the next, I don't see much of a difference. It's the right engine that is giving me problems, which will be the second picture. I really have no idea as to whether or not the damage to either impeller is the cause of the problem. they are both a little dinged up on the leading edge, but nothing serious. The wear rings have a couple scrapes on them, but the clearance is still under .04 on both. I did notice the impeller boot on the right impeller was ripped, but i could have done that when i was trying to take it off. You will also notice a big ding in the fiberglass water intake. Would this be affecting the flow enough to cause these problems?? I'm starting to think it might be a problem with the jet pump ventilating. The engine RPM is screaming high, but there is no thrust untill it planes out. Do you suggest i take the ride shoes off, clean them up and re seal them? What about the through-hull seal?? It's my first time ripping this thing apart. Thanks guys.

from what the pictures show, think you need to remove the ride-shoe and re-seal along with check'n the thru-hull. Those pix show better condition then my impellor and wear rings.

Theres a recent, similar thread as yours, and the member ended up reseal'n the shoe on his..and WHAM, problem fixed.

I've been told by sea doo snipe that taking the ride shoe off can cause more damage then do good. I've been looking closely at the bolts holding the ride shoe to the hull from inside the engine compartment and it looks like there could be a few spots where its not properly sealed. I'm thinking I should probably go ahead and take it off to get a better look.

Had You cleaned anything?

In the pics I don't see any Neoprene seal residue or silicone?
Have cleaned where the pump and wear ring meets the Hull?
Is there a chance it wasn't sealed? Its just something I noticed.

Ride Shoe melting

yeah there was definitely no neoprene seal on either of the pump house support. I picked up a tube of silicone to seal it up when I'm all done. I took the ride shoe off yesterday, when i took the bolts off it just fell right off, no prying required. the seal around it wasn't done very well either, so this is probably another cause of air getting in. I checked the thru-hull seal, carbon seal and all the o rings and everything looks fine. One thing i did notice was that there was a big hole melted in the bottom compartment of the ride shoe, I have no idea how this could have possibly happened. take a look at the pictures.
