I went for the maiden voyage on my 2006 GTX 155 STD. Wide open I can only get about 5500 RPMs and 35 mph. The ski only has 31 hours. I siphoned the gas out because I'm not sure how old it was (I just bought this ski) and filled with good gas. No big improvement. It did surge full power briefly a couple of times while I was out. I am going to change the plugs tomorrow.

Any other ideas, suggestions? Thanks!

Hey Jonny, I had a similar problem on one of my GTX 155s; it turned out to be an exhaust leak. I found it by following the directions on a can of SeaFoam Spray. After the 5 minute waiting period (after the spray emulsifies all the carbon in the engine), the exhaust will smoke like crazy. That's when I discovered I had a leak at the J-pipe. I changed the pipe, and was back to full power. This probably isn't a common cause for what you are experiencing, but it easy to rule out. The ski only had 43 hours of fresh water use.

Thanks for the tip MKOV608. After reading some posts in the forum, I am thinking it is the spark plugs. I am going to change them later today after work.

Does this sound like fouled plugs to anyone else?

Yes, change plugs. The brief surges to full power is a dead give away for plug failure. It will stop surging soon after and just run poorly on 2 cyl.

Thanks Ski-D00. I spent some time looking through the form posts pertaining to the 4tec spark plugs and see that this is probably the problem. Going to buy 2 sets of plugs at lunch today and will install them after work.

I will update.

It's was the plugs. It runs great now!
