I was just speaking with my mechanic who says my crank shaft seals are gone. He said my options are get a new crank shaft for $700 + labor or he could re-build my engine for $1800. I found a Hot rod 787 crank shaft on ebay for $500. I've heard many times on this forum that people don't trust a lot of the after-market parts. Is an after-market crank shaft a bad idea?

I really wanted to go that route, but I live inn Canada and it would cost me $350 to ship mine out and then $350 to have the rebuilt one shipped to me. Once the taxes and custom's fees are applied that would be more than the rebuild here. Any Canadians here know if there is a place in Canada that has the same exchange thing going as SBT? Also, has anyone ever used an aftermarket crank shaft? Any other ideas are welcome as well.

Damn they hit you that hard on duties/taxes for that. I have ordered heavy computer servers from Canada shipped to Chicago and it was pretty cheap not much more than here in the US for shipping jsut took a few days longer. I know I didn't pay any duties or taxes. Not sure how it hits you from buying US stuff and shipping it to Canada. I would check that company Fullbore in MI he might know a way to do it to save on the taxes and duties since he actually rebuilds your engine.
