I need some advice on a 97 gtx rebuilt 787 engine startup and timing. The manual says the timing has to be set by programing the MPEM. Since I cant do that how big of a deal is it? Can I start it up and get the oil flowing and check for leaks or other problems without worrying about the timing being off and causing damage. I left the magnetic cup on the flywheel so its alignment hasnt changed. Is there an alternative to taking it to the dealer and having them time/program it?
Also, if anybody has any new engine startup tips I'd like to hear them.
