Hi everyone! Well we just picked up a used challenger 180 our first jet boat we are excited and ready to go. The ice has left most of the lakes around here so we can't wait to get her out. I have been viewing the forum for a few weeks now and have pick up lots of great info thanks! We still have about a month before the water is warm enough for the kids so I have some time to tinker :) I just have a few questions on a few things first is Im going to remove the ICS motor to make space for an extra battery for stereo upgrades does any one have some pics of mountings and battery switch setups along with a way to secure the grate. My last question was about the stock air intake I wanted to upgrade to an air tube and filter like the later challenger models but I can't find an aftermarket setup? just want a single tube off the supercharger with a filter secured neatly in the engine compartment and I could use the extra space on the back seat wall to do a nice wiring/switch isolator placement for the dual battery setup.

Thanks Again!

Colin

I would reconsider the air box change. The voltage regulator goes is mounted on the air box next to the battery switch. So I think that acts as cooling.

If your ICS is shot, then by all means remove it. However I would not put a battery there. I have spent enough time on my gut working in that area on the ICS. I am thinking about building an extra mount just next to the existing battery box. However I would build it on the side of the boat. I think that area would be easier to access that the ICS section.

I thought about the area beside the battery too I will check on the voltage regulator good point I don't need that overheating!

I was in my boat last night changing the oil. I take back my remark about the ICS spot for second battery. I think now that would be a fine spot.

thanks for that info mudnman. just got my 06 Sportster and I have already spent way more money on it then I thought I would right of the bat (super charger, jet pump rebuild with impeller and wear ring, water pump housing, numerous trailer repairs, etc). i guess I better pull my valve cover and see if I see lucky number 75s. wish me luck!

on a positive note. I think I have found an excellent shop to use. they did my supercharger rebuild and he did mention to me at the time that I should look into the valve issue but it went right over my head. if anyone is in Pinellas county and would like the info let me know.

DLB, please share the excellent shop to use since I live not far from Pinellas County. Thanking you in advance.
