my first Seadoo X20

Hi everyone, I just bought my first Seadoo boat. It's a 2004 X20 and I'm wondering if there's anything that I should do before I get out on the water. What should I be checking to make sure that there's no problems when I'm out on my maiden voyage? lol

sure 05GTXSC you're going to love the way that it looks but wou will have to check back in a couple of hrs so that I can take them and get them into the computer.
 
I have never heard of a X20. Lets see some pics!!!

The X (aka "Challenger X") was the wakeboard edition of the Challenger 2000. Same hull, same deck layout, same engine options, but a factory installed wakeboard tower and different graphics. Manufactured until 2005 or 2006.
 
WAjetboating, you are exactly right. Other than a few changes it is almost identical to the Challenger 20. Gotta love the black hull and the factory tower. Can't wait to get it on the water.
 
I envy your ability to pull a wake board !

You can put a wakeboard tower on almost any boat (though your sig suggests you have a jetski, sorry, can't help with wakeboarders there!). I turned my Challenger 2000 into a Challenger X by installing my own tower. Here's what mine looks like now:

Tower cost under $1000 shipped to my door. I did the install myself. You can too!
 
WAjetboating, the boat looks A+. You did a great job on matching the colors. How do you find it with a rider in tow? Does it create enough wake for the rider to get big air or should I be planning on filling the "fat sac"?

It's great for beginners and surface moves. Big air will require more displacement, which I haven't done yet. However, since the boat has the vertically mounted Mercury SportJet engine, there is TONS of room in the engine compartment to access either side of the inner hull. I can easily see putting 300+ pound fat sacs on both sides, just forward of the engine, sort of under and to the sides of the rear seats (which also happens to be the boat's CoG).

The storage locker is also available, and has a nice big door for "storage locker" style fat sacs to slip right in. Like the above location, this would keep the additional weight near the CoG for this boat, avoiding the planing problems that aft-only fat sacs sometimes cause.

Total rated capacity for the hull is ~1400 pounds so you'd have to be careful not to exceed that with fat sacs + passengers. It would be easy to add 1000 pounds of fat sac capacity, and with a couple of adults you could exceed the rating without realizing it.

We've tried wakeboarding with three big adults sitting on the sundeck and the wake increases noticeably. That's always an option to fat sacs - just invite more friends! <grin>

The company that makes that tower powder coats them in a variety of colors. That one happened to match the Seadoo blue almost perfectly. They also do the traditional polished (mirror) finish. We've been absolutely delighted with it and recommend it to anyone considering an aftermarket tower. I looked at everything and this was the best I could find.

WAjetboating, great advice on the wake issue. I have the priviledge of having a 100L fat sac that will add about 600lbs. It's located right in the middle storage compartment (also used for the ski storage). I think that instead of filling the sac I'll just take your advice and bring some more friends along for the ride. Can't wait. Thanks again for the advice.
