The oil tank on my 2001 GTX RFI has a crack and it's leaking from the seams. I decided to replace it and the oil lines. The dealer is telling me that I must use the factory oil lines because they are specially made for the oil used on Seadoos, and that I should not use lines sold anywhere else. That the rubber will decompose and go into the engine and ruin it. Are they full of it?

Yes they are.

You can use any fuel stable hose. Some guys use vinyl, but I prefer chemical hose such as Tygon. It's good for petroleum products. (petrol, Diesel, oil)

I thought that they where full of it. Thanks. I just finished replacing the tank. It was pretty cracked up at the seam. I'm glad I decided to replace it. I'll buy tygo hoses tomorrow. The hoses are 8mm and 12mm. What sizes should I buy in standard size?

Do I really need to replace the oil lines? They don't look dry and brittle. Very pliable.

Hummm.....

Famous last words. Just before you loose the engine.

Do what you want, it's your ski.

My advice is to squeeze them, and then give a little twist. Not hard... but a twist. If the hoses are bad, they will just split once a twisting pressure is put on them.

Personally, I would at least change the small hoses. I would do this for a few reasons.

1) you can check to see if the nipples are clear on the manifold.

2) even when they are plyable, the clamps can become loose, and they can leak

3) it will force you to bleed the system, and you will get a visual verification that the oil is pumping.

I could not find Tygon, so I got Good Year. I picked 3/8" and 1/2". Are these the correct sizes?, because they feel loose before I put the clamps on them. I just want to make sure before I put them on.

I've been putting off changing my oil pump lines because I'm scared I'm going to mess up my Seadoo. If I bleed my lines properly do I still have to put some oil in my gas tank? What is the ratio of XPS oil per gallon of gas if I have to?

I just replaced the small oil lines on both my skis. Connect the small lines to the carb area first fill the lines with oil using a small clean syringe.connect to oil pump. I left a very small bubble in the lines to confirm pump was actually pumping. Purge all the lines as the manual says and don't be scared, haha.

I was wondering if I should have bought see through oil lines? The ones that I'm putting on today are heavy duty, but they are not see through. Any thoughts?

I guess I should have stuck to my original plan of buying see through hoses. The sales guy talked me into buying better hoses, but they were not see through. Thanks for you help. I'll get new hoses tomorrow.

I replaced the pump oil lines and crankcase lines as well. Everything went well. Thanks for all of the input. Should I also replace the very small lines going to the engine? What size do I need replace them with?

No prob. that's what we're here for

Heck yes!

Those are the ones that normally fail. I use 1/8" ID Tygon hose. But the small hose they sell for a chain saw, or weed-eater at your local lawn mower shoppe will work too.

Once you take them off... make sure the nipples on the intake manifold are clear, and re-install them with small zip-ties.

how do I take off the small 1/8 hoses? They look like they have a collar around them. Do they slip over a nipple and then they put a collar over the hose?

Small oil lines

You are right, they do have a small collar, but if you give them a tug they will come off. Slide the new lines over the nipple and secure with small zip ties. I just replaced mine and it was pretty easy.

I finally finished replacing all of the oil lines. Was not to much fun replacing the crankcase oil lines. A few cuts on my hands, but I feel much better now about having replaced the lines. Thanks to all of you for your advice.
