MPEM Rebuild - any pointers?

So I think I have a computer failure. Got the Sportster in the shop now and dreading the diagnosis. Assuming that I will have to pony up a few bucks for a new MPEM, I was thinking about pulling the old one apart and attempting a rebuild so I got a spare. The problem appears to be a blown rectifier or something (I have a previous thread on this) so I figure it might be fixable. Anybody out there ever attempt this? I realize that this isn't for the faint of heart (nobody attempts to repair a desktop computer's motherboard these days - they just swap out for a new one), but an MPEM is a pricey unit and it would be nice to have a spare lying around.

I noticed there are a couple of guys on the net offering a repair service. The MPEM is a completely potted unit, so I would need to cut the computer out of its potting matrix to start the surgery. Again... advice would be welcome.
