More Gray Fuel Line questions

The shop told me I needed to rebuild fuel system on my pair of 2005 GTIs (single carb 717 engine). They wanted $750 each to do the work, so that means I'm doing it myself.

I pulled the carb off and noticed that it has the gray lines on the carb itself (accelerator pump?). I previously looked for gray lines after reading about them here, but only checked the delivery lines and did not notice the little ones on the carb. Everything else is Marine Grade rubber.

So before I cut them off, Anybody know where I can get new? Or do I just use more of the standard marine grade rubber hose?

Thanks for any advice
Rick

Buy black fuel line by the foot at automotive store.
Otherwise if you have place that sells marine stuff will have marine grade at higher price.

If ski new to you and since their are off open it up and check internal filter.

yup you should just need about 25' of fuel line, not sure if your ski takes the 1/4" or 5/16" fuel line, but the litte accelerator lines do NOT need to be replaced. They are fine

All the other lines are 1/4" Marine, but I don't know how old they are so I'll just replace them. The cost is not an issue because if something were to go wrong, I don't want any crap out of my insurance company.

I want to replace the accelerator lines, but they are short with tight bends and I think the 1/4" line will be too bulky to fit neatly or without kinking and cutting off the supply. I didn't want to cut off the old lines until I had a fix on new ones. But I don't know what size they are (I suspect they are metric).

$750 to rebuild 1 carb??? frikin yikes...that must be their we got way too many boats already and we do not want your business price. I never heard of such a high price. going price around here for an V-6 outboard is like $300-350. I would think a single carb jet ski would be maybe $200.. I mean what could it take?? a $30 kit and 2 hours shop time??? I am in the wrong business.

You do not need to replace your fuel lines!
Your ski has the black fuel lines from the factory and not the Tempo lines.
I would not replace she small accelerator pump lines as they should be fine too.

I'm certainly not wanting to change the lines considering how hard it is to work inside these, and the fact that everything has to be done twice, but even really great hose must deteriorate after 10 years, no?

Honestly it should be fine but if it makes you feel more confident when out on the water that is as good a reason as any to replace it.

I have a receipt from 2 years ago from the p.o. that he gave me along with all the other paperwork that is for over $800, and essentially all they did was rebuild the carbs and change out the Tempo fuel lines on the '97 GTI. The previous owner told me it had got to running really rough and wouldn't idle so he took it to the shop.
Just goes to show some shops are making a killing on working on these machines.

I cracked open one of the carbs and it looks factory fresh. The gaskets are clean and flexible, and the internal filter had only two little black flecks in it. My rebuilt kits should be here today, along with my Clic pliers that I ordered so I can remove those hose clamps. I'll get a look inside the gray accelerator lines once I can remove the clamps without destroying them.

Thanks for the advice so far!

I would also suggest an in line fuel filter. When I rebuilt my carbs initially, the screens were junked up with goo and junk. I replaced all the fuel lines and carb screens. Initially I thought well it took almost 20 years to fill up the internal carb screens so I avoided the fuel filter. When I had my engine rebuilt, I had Waterluvr go through the carbs to be sure they were correct and I was surprised to see how much stuff was in the carb filters again after just one season. I am wondering if some of it was little debris from the cuts I made on the new fuel lines I installed. I now have an inline filter installed!

When you do your carbs do not use the springs in the rebuild kit as they are wrong. Just reuse the one from the factory.

The springs that come in the rebuild kit are the wrong tension. Mikuni made about 4 different springs all different rates to tune the carbs. For some reason the kits only have three of the 4 springs made and as luck would have it the seadoo's use the spring that is not included in the kit so as long as yours is not corroded you need to reuse it. If it is damaged you will need a new one and I think Nick (Minnetonka4me) stocks them.
