might have dropped washer down intake when I had carbs off

hello I have a 1996 GTI and took carbs off for cleaning and when I try to start motor it lock up and can turn by hand just a couple inches then hangs up ,it possible I drop a washer in the intake . Any suggestions where to start to get out this mess I got myself into .
