Manually Crank Engine

OK, so I need to manually crank my engine to make sure its not frozen up...I know I need to remove the spark plugs...but thats really all I know! What else do I need to do and how exactly do I manually crank it? Thanks!

Would help to spray some penetrating oil into the cylinders and let them soak first. With the plugs out grab the PTO and turn by hand. Motor turns clockwise. Looking from the rear would be counter-clockwise.
