Loose Throttle (97 challenger 1800)

So I just picked up a 1997 challenger 1800 that needs mostly cosmetic work, and had it checked out by a shop to make sure everything was fine and dandy. Well, apparently they didn't do a whole lot. Here's the problem:
When driving the boat, the throttle is very loose (the part next to the steering wheel) and if I don't hold it it will vibrate enough to fall back down to idle. It's very obnoxious and I'm new to the marine industry, but have experience working on cars so I'm hoping to get this fixed.
The other thing it does, is that same engine will die when I'm just sitting at idle occasionally.

You will see that there is a plate around the throttle levers. Take it off and pull the whole assembly up out of the hole. You will see some screws on the side of the levers. Tighten them and you should be good as new.

Yep. Take your time removing the stainless Allen head screws so you don't snap them off also. I've gotten into the habit of using anti seize on every bolt I take out.

The idle problem might mean it's due for a Carb rebuild

Perfect seems to have fixed it!
And I'm hoping it doesn't need a carb rebuild as the previous owner put ~$5k in the jets 2 years ago but who knows!

Dang I love the search feature. I took my boat out for the first time since I bought it and the port side throttle would fall just as soon as I let it go.
