Leaking Stator - removing 2" nut

I found an excellent thread in this forum about changing the seals for a leaking stator using a puller tool to remove the bushings.

Anyone had a leaking stator?

However, in two of the comments there were discussions about removing this large 2" nut to more easily access the bushings. Did anyone ever explore this route? I ask because my stator is leaking and the guy working on it gave up trying to loosen this nut. Fortunately I came across this discussion about using a puller tool before he did any damage to the stator.

But left me curious about this giant nut in the front of the stator and whether its removable. Here is the nut.

thanks Jason

I do not find any part listing showing that hex plug removed.

If you are leaking at the shaft, you should be OK replacing the seals. Any scratch or ding on the bearing surface can create a leak. Especially at the seal area.

However- a crack is possible. There are sealers for this; but the crack MUST be absolutely clean of oil.
