leak test

I have a 1995 GTX, I did a leak test on the crank because I need a top end done so I wanted to get an idea if the crank seals were good. I blocked off the exhaust and plugged the intake. When the pressure on the gauge goes past 5psi I can hear air going through the rotary Valve oil return tube quite a bit. Is it safe to asume the inner seals are bad? This happened to my other ski as well, its scarry to buy any older ski because this seems to be very common. Does it even pay to do a top end without changing the crank unless you know its been done recently. I am starting to dislike two strokes for this very reason. Also do you recommend rebuilt cranks because they have a wear spot on the shaft were the old seal was, will that make them fail faster? Lastly is it worth putting all this money in a 14 year old jet ski?

Crank seals

Not sure about the leak test since I've never done one on a rotax engine, but another way to tell if the crank seals are bad is if you fill the oil tank up to the brim and let it sit for a while with the oil tubes connected to the case. If the oil level drops or if your engine floods with oil then you've got bad seals.

And I hope its worth pouring money in a 14-year old jetski since I just put a fresh top end on my 91 SP! Hopefully it will last more than one season...

Yes, you have leaking crank seals.
Kudos to you for doing a pressure test. I always shake my head when I hear of people doing a top end without checking the bottom end.
