Dont know if this is normal or not. But here is the situation. I have a 2000 speedster.

1. If i have the lanyard and the key in it starts fine. If i remove the lanyard it cuts the engine off.

2. if i have just the key in and not the lanyard the engine will turn over but will not start.

Doesnt seem normal that it would turn over without the lanyard in it. i have confirmed it wont start though and that it does turn off if i pull it.

Can any confirm if this is normal.

I'm not 100% sure on the Merc powered boats... but the lanyard is just a "Kill" switch. So, if it kills the engine, and it won't start without it... then yes, it's working fine.

The Key is the system power, so it would crank without the lanyard. (the older SeaDoo Skis were the same way)
