I need help .... we just bought two sea doo RXT's , one is from 05 the other is from 06...

The one from 2005 has 54 hours on it and when you start it it makes a weird grinding kind of noise ... it rides the same way as a second RXT and it doesn't seem like it has any power loss ....It does need an oil change since the oil is just black... Also we checked and nothing seems to be stuck inside the pump... Anyone have any clues why is it making this grinding noise., could it be because of bad oil in the engine/supercharger ?

Thanks

Vlad

+1 .... you can pull the starter and rebuild it...do whatever you can to keep the OEM starter, dont buy a cheap aftermarket POS...

Thanks for a quick reply... can anybody point me to where is the starter located, and is it easy to take out ? Also how can I double check it to make sure it is the starter ?

Thanks

lol, I understand that it is under the seat :)))) .....what I meant was is it on the right or on the left of the engine... I guess it is somewhere beside the supercharger, but I need to take out the middle part that covers the engine to get a closer look.... Is there a procedure somewhere on the internet on how to remove the starter.... Also does anyone know where I can get a repair manual for it....

I also called a mechanic shop in snow city today and they said its' like a week or 2 before they even could look at it, meaning it will take a month... The redneck from the Brampton place hanged up the phone on me when I called the first time and the second time I called he put me on hold for like 10 minutes before I hung up myself,, I wouldn't trust them even with my bicycle.... so I guess I will have to be my own mechanic on this one....

Thanks for support, oh , and are there anyone here from Toronto ?

Vlad

It does not look like a starter., I checked the noise today again and it is coming somewhere from the back, maybe the impeller or something...

Pull the rear jet pump cone and see if the cone had water in it. The older skis have gear oil in the cone. i belive that year is supposed to be packed with synthetic grease. If you get water in their it can slowly ruin the drivesgaft bearings.

I am taking the pump apart tomorrow .... I already got a brand new bearing, 2 seals and some special grease from BRP... Hope I will figure out what goes where :)

are you sure thats the problem before you go tearing stuff down and wasting $$$$$$$$$, what if thats not it???

If the noise is coming from back there it should be the pump, which you are planning on rebuilding, or possibly the splines inside the PTO flywheel where the drive shaft fits in. If the PTO didn't get greased often enough, that can also make a lot of noise as the broken and worn splines bounce off each other.
