Jet ski won’t start in water, any suggestions?

Hi there, I have a 2002 sea doo gtx rfi. The problem I’m having is it will start on a hose and will start out of the water (obviously don’t leave it running long) but when I want to start it on the water it bogs and idles super low and then eventually dies. Do you think the my air intake is clogged? It’s getting fuel and spark as it smokes and wants to start. Just doesn’t want to keep running. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You are in the wrong forum for your ski, however I would do a compression test and if the test is good I would suggest the rotary valve has too much clearance (wear) and needs repair. Could be the timing of it also, but wear seems to be the cause of your symptoms.
