Is the reducer part of a seal/oring?

Quick question and sorry if this has been answered before.

I have a 2007 GTI that is experiencing acceleration problems. No problem with RPMs, but very little acceleration.

From researching on this board, the most common problems are with the wear ring, the impeller, or the carbon seal.

My wear ring is a little scored but based on the pictures I've seen not bad enough to cause such low speed (5-10 MPH) at any RPM. The impeller looks good with no appearant damage. I have not checked the carbon seal yet but I did notice something when I fired it up in the driveway last night.

When I attached the water hose and turned it on, there was a good stream of water spraying out from around the reducer area.

Is that normal or is that area supposed to be sealed?

If it helps to troubleshoot, the rider reported that the problem started right after going over a large wave and getting some air.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,

Dave

What is the "reducer area"?

That is supposed to be sealed. You need to remove the pump and see what's up. Is the pump loose and trying to fall out?

I'd also check the motor mounts. A loose engine will come out of alignment and cause cavitation.

That washer shouldn't just....start leaking. Has the pump been worked on recently?

Off hand I'd say your pump isn't installed correctly. Sometimes that washer will...become deformed upon a hasty install. If your pump isn't installed right it may explain your wear ring. What kinda clearance are you seeing between your prop and wear ring?

Dennis, Red2blue thanks for the help!

You guys are not going to believe what the primary power problem is. Now before I explain what I found, know that this machine was purchased new, run exclusively in fresh water, has 45 hours on it and it has never been apart.

Upon closer inspection, I discovered that of the four bolts that hold the Venturi to the pump housing, the lower right bolt was missing, the upper right bolt was sheared off near the head, the lower left bolt was backed out 3/4 of its thread and the upper left bolt was backed out 1/4 of its thread. All of the water coming through the pump was getting blasted out the side of the unit. the remaining bolts were bent from the water pressure pushing the Venturi out of place.

So I'm guessing that the guy that put it together at the factory had one too many Mooseheads at lunch.

The leak at the reducer might just be part of the same crappy assembly.

Looks like the pump needs to come out.

Have you ever seen this before?

Thanks,
Dave

Never heard of one left loose at the factory either. Like red2blue asked "someone tried to steal your pump?' The leak at the reducer tells me that the pump is not bolted to the hull correctly. If it is loose, don't just tighten it up. Pull it out and get a real close look at it.
