Intermittent Starting

My 08 Challenger 180 was running fine then just shut off. It Cranked back up then shut off again a few minutes later. Did this several times, then nothing. The dash went blank and it wouldn't start but the horn and blower still worked. If you let it sit, eventually it chirped and you could start it back up. If you turn the power switch off and back on, the dash would blink but then go blank. I changed keys, checked fuses wires and connections, everything looks fine. There was a relay on the small fuse box in the back that was really hot. Any ideas?

Anyone have any ideas? The dealer doesn't seem to be able to replicate the problem. I think it needs to run for a while to heat up. My guesses are the ignition switch, the relay in the rear ignition fuse panel or its grounding out? Any ideas that will help me point them in the right direction would be appreciated.

Similar Issue

My 2005 Challenger exhibits a similar condition. 50/50 if it starts or not. When it doesn't, no beeps at all. The other accesories all function properly and the battery is fully charged. Currently at the dealer, however they have not been able to identigy the problem either.

Please let me know if your dealer is able to diagonis the issue.

As far as I know thy haven't been able to replicate it. Does yours do it more when the engine is hot? Mine did it after running it for a while. Then it wouldn't start for about an hour. Shortly after that it cranked and hasn't done it since. I once had a Jeep that did the same thing. Turned out to be the control modulator. I think that is the computer.

Actually, my Challengers problem start at the begining of the day when it is ice cold. If it beeps and cycles she starts. One afternoon after running around for a couple hours. Parked it at the dock. Two hours later nothing, no beeps. Really frustrating. Got a reply to start with the Lanyard post. We will see.

Well after 5 weeks in the shop, the dealership still has no idea. I had them order the relay and give me back my boat, but I'm not sure that is it. It ran fine for a while yesterday, then just shut off. I put a zip lock bag of ice over the relay, to cool it down, but it didn't help. It always seems to do it after I slow down to idle speed. Luckily I was where I was going, so we just threw the anchor and hung out for an hour or so. I wasn't sure it was going to crank, and just as we were about to tow it, it came to life. Drove it 30-45 min back to my marina without any problems.

When the relay comes in, I replace that, but if that doesn't work, then what?

So this weekend it shut off, like I expected. It wouldn't start or even chirp, but when I turned on the navagatio lights on, it started fine. It ran great, but as soon as I turned the lights off, the boat died. I'm thinking it's a ground issue. What do u think?
