impeller shaft seal

can some one tell me if the impeller shaft seal goes in with the face of the seal pointing out towards me or if the face of the seal goes into the bearings ,i bought a complete pump housing for my 96 GSX but when looking at the seal i see the spring around the double lip part ,,and all the seals i have ever installed the sping and the bootom side of the seal are always on the inside
