Guys,

I'm thinking about going with the Solas Impeller but should I go with a Stainless wear ring or stick with the OEM plastic?

A dealer told me that when it is time to change your wear ring just stick with the OEM because of the expense, the stainless ones could also get very damaged if something gets jammed in there

The plastic wear ring is ment to have a little give incase you pass something big throught it. Otherwise you'll have an increased risk of messing up your impeller.

And which impellers are you getting? I'm looking for something to give me a little more power while taking a corner. Would make it easier to pull people on our tubes.

Solas

Cyph,

So far it looks like I'm going with the Solas SRX-CD-14/19* Unless others suggest another option.

I have the solas 14/19 and am happy! Works good and only 1-2mph top end speed loss with improved hole shot. Actually with a full boat load its faster than stock.

I use plastic wear rings. I am on my 2rd in 55 hours. I have learned my lesson and dont expect any further damage. I changed the wear ring myself without even removing the impeller.

Never do more than idle in less than 3 feet of water or you will suck in stuff from the bottom.

Any wear ring deals out there?

Where is the cheapest place everyone has found to get a quality plastic wear ring? I got my last one from ebay for around 42.00, but i needed it in a hurry.. just seeing if there are any deals out there, since I'm not pressed for time during the winter.. Thanks!

wear ring

Impros sells a OEM knock-off for $40,but when they were out of stock they said the OEM was better(go figure) at $60.
As far as a stainless ring, Glen at skat trac says the plastic ring wears during the first 2 hrs of use thus losing it's full effectiveness whereas the stainless does not wear. I've got about 6 hrs on my new OEM ring and agree it made the most power wearing in,but the loss it is hardly noticable. Where I boat there is many small sticks in the lake in the spring and I'd rather sacrifice my $60 wear ring than my $340 swirl:)
IMHO I would think the stainless ring would be must for competition boating but not practical for pleasure boating
