Whats up been a little while since I have been on the forum and I have a little issue. I was going to winterize my ski today but am unable to. When I put the lanyard on the post I get nothing no beeps, the screen does not light up, nothing. I gave the battery a full charge, even though it was on a tender for the last couple weeks and still nothing, I even tried my back up battery and nothing, all the fuses are good. The only thing I can think of is maybe the post needs to be replaced? Any other ideas.

Try cleaning the post and the key with a pencil eraser. Its possible you are just not getting a clean connection. Try this first, and cross your fingers.

It's hard to test... but I would check your lanyard post for voltage, and a good connection. Also... check all the grounds int he system. I know that sounds basic, but we've seen it more than once, where the grounds were dirty, loose, or corroded, and the system wouldn't work.

Do you have a shop manual? They have some good advice on how to troubleshoot issues and work through the steps to find the culprit.

I need to check again but if I were to have a blow fuse, would that cause nothing to happen when I put the lanyard on the post?

Tony said BASICS!!!!!

Does battery have proper CCAs? Go from where you DO have power, to where its
not.

To figure out what's wrong, unplug the black/red wire between the coil and mpem (part with fuses) and see what happens. If it has spark then the mpem probably has an issue. If no spark, either the stator or coil are to blame. Also if it starts like that use the choke to kill since the kill switches will be bypassed.

Ensure that you have the correct spark plug and the gap is the correct gap, and torqued. Consult your manual, to be sure.

Change out Coil. The orginal signal to spark the coil is generated at the stator. The exciter coil on the stator must be good to generate spark. Also, the start stop button and lanyard post must be good to allow the ignition to work. If any one of those things is bad, you would see no spark.

I have seen spark plug wires burned at mid point and hard to detect its failure, and change them before I buy a coil, as there is no test for them, they Work or Don't Work.

A free floating piece of metal inside the mag housing can short out the system regularily, or irrregularly, depending on what it touches. If it is not a broken gear tooth or starter shaft spline, it could be a piece of the centrifical weight holder retainers inside the bendix, as they break off regularly and there are 6 of them. They are U shaped and about 1/4 inch long x 1/4 inch wide. Not only a huge hazard to the destruction of the stators coils, but also a hazard to the ignition pickup by gounding it out killing spark and the power to everything else.

When dealing with ignition problems, the following
items should be verified in this order.

1. Spark occurence/ spark plug condition.
2. Battery condition,by voltage, and by load test. Voltage Range test before & after start-up.
3. Electrical connections.
4. Engine start - stop switch
5. Safety lanyard switch.
6. Timer delay.
7. Multi-purpose electronic module (MPEM).
8. Magneto output.
9. Ignition coil output.
10.Wire Harness continuity and connector condition & cleanliness, Dielectric greased.

GET A SHOP MANUAL: Pictoral Wire diagrams
are near the rear. It has testing diagnostic proceedures and part locations.
Hope this helps.
