How to test a stator and coil

Have a 93 GTX with a 585 motor and have no or very weak spark and it will not fire up. Fuel is getting to the cylinders with no issues and I have replaced the plugs with new. Placed a volt meter (+) on the end of the plug wire while cranking it over and the meter barely moved (- on the battery). How do I test the stator and the coil to detect which one is providing the issues, and if it is the stator, does the motor have to be removed to get to it?

Replace the coil wires.

In order to replace the coil wires I have to replace the entire coil pack, but I would like to find out how to test the coil first instead of buying a new coil pack for $175 to find out that is not the issue. Any idea's?
