How to tell if crank seals are bad/failing or had not been replaced?

Hi guys,

A friend of mine purchased a rebuilt motor and took it in to have it professionally installed locally. The local installation mechanic is claiming that there is no way this is a rebuilt motor and that the crank seals are no good and the top end was the only thing rebuilt.

It's tough to find a knowledgeable 2 strong PWC shop in our area...

Do you have any advice as to how we can confirm/check to see if the the crank seals are good or had been replaced?

Thanks so much,

Donnie

You can visually inspect them and see if they look old or new.
To verify they are good you need to do a leakdown test by sealing off the intake and exhaust and pressurise the engine through the pulse nipple to 8 psi and it should hold pressure for at least 10 minutes.
