How do I check my motor mounts, im replacing my tuned pipe bolts for the 2nd time and want to make sure they are good and not causing the problem, last time after replacing the bolts I grabbed the tuned pipe on top near where the 4 bolts are and tried to rock the motor back and forth, there seemed to be little to no movement, is this the right way to test them, or should I unbolt each mount and lift up the motor some and see if the rubber mount is intact and not just sitting there because the weight of the engine is holding it? Which mount or mounts are usually bad?

When I've come across the broken mounts on a 717 engine I could definitely feel the motor rock when pulling on the side where the broken mount was.

just grab a good hold of the engine/ exhaust and yank it up and just try and pull it away from the mounts each in turn, it will be very obvious if one is broke.
