how to change F N D drive cable seadoo challenger

it bro right where the leaver is under. called stealership and said 2 hours job. i work on cars all the time but cant figure out how the heck to get to the other end of the cable? please help thank or call 586 214 1344 frank same problem with my 98 yamaha exciter 270 hp
 
If it is anything like my sportster 1800 you just undo the connections at the bucket and hull and pull it out. takes like 15 min.
 
the bucket is the gate that comes down over the jet nozzle to push the water towards the front of the boat for reverse. If this cable is like my sportster you have to reach all the way to the back of the engine bay and loosen the nut for the tru hull fitting all the way. then go between the jet nozzles and pull the cable out a inch or two to release the plastic clips from the steal ring. and disconect the cable from the buckets. then just reverse this order to put back in.
 
when youre pulling the original broken cable out , maybe attach a cord or small rope to it so that when you go to pull in the new cable you already have the route established. We do that for electrical stuff, and it saves a load of time.

Hey guys I just did this, and believe me its WAY EASIER thank i thought it would be, so if I can do it, ANYBODY CAN DO IT!. Also you guys are in luck, sbt happens to have those cables in stock! yup, love that huh, here is the link:

Now I just noticed that these are for Speedsters and Sportsters, so im not sure if it fits your boats?

The way i found my cable is by googling, and googling and googling the part number, and then finding the superceded part number and voila! I found my cable...

Now installation, now installation is easier than I ever imagined, you have to go inside your engine bay follow the reverse cable and loosen the nut from inside the engine bay from the reverse cable bucket, then go behind your boat and remove the plastic nut (be careful you dont break it), then remove the screws from your reverse forward neutral plate holder, bring up your levers and loosen the nut from your reverse lever.. and from then on is so easy its sick.. I think it can take me now 15 minutes, the first time took me 30 minutes...

Yeah, that was the first fix when I got my boat, a 2001 Challenger. Found the cable on eBay, and brought it to a local boat repair shop (not Sea Doo). They quoted $506! I was blown away. Did it myself in 2 hours, including a trip to the hardware store for loctite. It was super easy. You don't need to thread the path, just remove the shifter assembly and push the cable through. The path is short so it comes out in the engine compartment. Put it through the holes, connect everything up like the old one was connected, put the shifter assembly back, and it worked.

Now carb work, that's a PIA.
 
neno1800.... I ordered a cable from a 98 Challenger, and everthing is identical to the old one, other than it is 4 inches shorter. I own a 98 sportster 1800, though.... the part number is 204170045. I am not sure of you cables measurements.
