Say, in relation to how much gas I use? (Not talking premix, but to those who have separate oil/gas tanks.)

1 tank of oil for every 2,3,4??? tanks of gas?

Just wondering! Thanks group!

Not sure on your deal, but I put in a half gallon of oil with 10 gallons of fuel when I topped off my '04 Sportster. So that would be roughly a gallon of oil per tank of fuel. It is a 951 DI.

That seems high. At 1/2 gallon oil for 10 gals fuel is a 20:1 ratio. 1280/64. I thought the 951 used a variable amount depending on speed that worked out to like 50:1. Even when you pre-mix, you use a 40:1 ratio. I would think on a 20 gal tank, you should use less than 1/2 gal. Your mileage may vary.

I agree.....seems high. Last summer it "seemed" better, but I never officially checked. Since then, when I replaced the throttle body assembly over the winter, I accidentially snapped the oil pump cable. Replaced that and set the pump per the shop manual. I never saw what the setting was originally, but I'll bet that it was for less oil.

Nonetheless, next time I actually have the thing running, I am going to do a more accurate check.

Thanks,
Kevin
