i am going to look at a 2000 seadoo gtx 1000 and the guy is looking to trade me his seadoo for my 2005 yz125 plus 500 cash, and my yz125 is worth around 2000, so tht would be around 2500 for it, this is going to be my first jet ski, is there anything i should watch out for specifically with jet skis? im a newbie when it comes to these, and is there any known problems that the 2000 seadoos had?

300 hours is alot in my opinion, but that is not extremely uncommon for that age ski. If it has not been overhauled before, it will probably be due in the near future. I'd pass personally for that price, unless he comes down about 500 to 1000, and it is extremely clean and runs great.

Whatever you do, make sure to test ride it and make sure all the electronics work and see how it runs and go from there.

would you think it would be a even trade, my machine worth 2000 even for his 2000 seadoo gtx 1000? and the thing looks pretty good for the year, and its had the pistons and rings done last season

the guy said it has nothing wrong with it, everything is in good working order, he can do a compression test for me when i get there, he said both the pistons have 120 for a compression, he rides his kids around on it mostly he said

Can't remember for sure on the 951 (1000) engine, but most of the others like my 787 is supposed to have 150 psi in each cyl to be at spec. I would read up on comp numbers for the 951 to make sure that is normal. Also take it for a test ride to verify his word on how it runs and if everything works (speedo, gas guage, info center, etc), 2000 might be ok if it is absolutely perfect. (in my opinion) You could also look it up in nada value for your area to give you a ball park figure of what it's worth.

Perfect on a 951 is 135psi, 120 is when you should start thinking about a rebuild. 300 hours is toward the end of the expected life of a 951 as well. Most of them don't make it much past 200 hours.
