How long can you safely run a GTX 215 out of water to winterize it?

Since our lake is 3 or more feet low on water, I have next to no water beneigh our Sea Doo and haven't been able to get it off the lift for the past 6 weeks.

If the lake doesn't come up about 18" by the time we have this winterized, I was curious about how the dealer will winterize it on the lift, when they can't put it in the water. Anyone know how long they can run it without water?

It is winterized out of the water.

Some skis don't even need antifreeze put into them depending on if they are closed loop or not. That said. Most people that work on skis have some sort of a pump to run the ski with antifreeze while they are winterizing them so that the exhaust does not have residual water sitting in it

Thanks. Ours does need to be winterized with the supercharger set up. I watched as they did the winterize portion of it on the lift out of the water, but had run the ski first to warm up the oil etc so they could change the oil and filter, then winterize.

I was hoping if they can't get it in the water, that they had some kind of method of pumping water in from a hose like using "ear muffs" on a stern drive.

Yes, it can be run with on a hose type setup. There are many manufactures that sell adapters so the ski can run on a hose or from a sump pump for example,,,

Not sure if anyone answered your original question:

Your ski can be run out of water, if you have a garden hose hooked into the flush port (back by the jet pump) and the water turned on, you can run the ski for about 2 min. tops. Any longer than that and you risk damaging your drive-shaft seal because it will heat up. There is no way to cool the drive-shaft seal out of the water.

If you do NOT have the hose hooked up to the flush port, then I would not run it for more than about 30 sec. Without water running through the exhaust system, the exhaust will heat up VERY quickly and you risk melting parts in your engine compartment.

When you do run it on the hose make sure you start the ski up first then turn on the water. NEVER turn the water on unless the engine is running, if you do your engine could fill with water and that would definitely ruin your day! Obviously then, turn the water off before you shut down the engine.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone. Good info to know. The dealer comes here to our dock and does the service on the spot, but I wanted to understand the "ground rules" before I see them trying to short cut something and not hooking up a hose or something.
