How important is this rubber plug?

After replacing the carbon seal on my 1997 GTX I found this rubber plug that I think came out of the hole the shaft goes into. After some research I think it goes on the end of the shaft. Do I need to take everything back apart and put this on? Thanks

Absolutely you do. And yes it goes on the end of your driveshaft

Yes! Get it back in there.

It's not a "plug", but a "bumper". There is one on each end of the drive shaft.
