GOT 1999 CHALENGER 1800 WITH TWIN 110'S, HOW FAST SHOULD I BE ABLE TO GET IT UP TO? NEED TO GET PORT THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTED, ONLY GETS 6K RPMs, OTHER DOES 7K. I SEE IT GOES UP TO 8K, WHAT SHOULD BE THE HIGH LIMIT, AND HOW MUCH SPEED SHOULD I GET. THE WAYS IT IS NOW ( 6K AND 7K) I GOT UP TO ABOUT 41-43 WITH MYSELF AND A BUDDY, WE BOTH WEIGHT ABOUT 225.
THANKS--- CHRIS:cheers:

My boat 1997 Challenger 1800

I just took my boat out and I had (with both engines turning 7200 rpms which is supposed to be top RPMs for this engine, 787):

1. Myself - 165
2. My wife - 110
3. My Daughter - 35
4. Brother in law - 180
5. Niece - 115
6. Nephew - 100
7. Gear - ~50
Total 760lbs

All that and I had a GPS confirmed 47mph. I wasn't on the smoothest water and I wasn't able to keep the throttle pinned because #2 and #3 were complaining.

I also have a 99, and my speedo says 47 with me and 1 person. Im also 220, my girl is alot lighter! lol. I have noticed this year that my left tack only gets around 6 and a half while the other is 7. Im not sure what it is or how to correct it though.

yeah, im gonna get a new GPS or borrow someones to check it out.( I punched mine and broke it bc it kept screwing up) Seems like im going little faster than low 42ish, but who knows, seems like your going faster on water than you really are. Also I had 2 of the notorious plugs on both head pipes leakin really bad, yes, 2 on each motor, now port does bout 6600ish and other 7k. running much better. new plugs helped too I think

yeah, "freeze plugs" i think they call them. i had a guy remove the pipes and weld them, the previous owner tried some sort of epoxy or JB weld, doubt he cleaned the surface well bc it didnt last very long, from what i have heard on here, if you prep it well, the JB will last for years.

Your thinking that would be the reason for the slight difference in the tachs????

I dont know... i changed the spark plugs too... for all I know the tach could be inaccurate and they are both pulling the same. I would think that with the head pipes spraying water out as bad as they were it would effect the cooling of the engine which might hurt the performance. It still is showing about 6500-6600 ish on that motor at WOT, so either the new plugs or the head pipe repair must of done something I would think

A good running will do about 47 mph with one person on smooth water... The tachs should get up to about 7k or right around there..The speedos are just for show and not accurate..You can actually repair the head pipe with some of those aluminum welding rods pretty easily. Check your rave valve diagrams if you can only rev to 6k...Jason
