How does the cooling water flow through the exhaust (which direction)?

I have a leaking freeze plug that I'm getting tig welded but some of the old crumbling aluminum plug fell into the Exhaust PIPE-HEAD (part # 274000161). It will not shake out nor will air blow it out. I tried using water flow & think I got it all but if I miss any, which way does it flow? Will it end up somewhere that could plug-up the block or an equally bad place?

How much of the old plug fell in? How big of pieces? My thought is that if you got most of it out with the water you shouldn't have issues.

What brought on the demise of the Utopia?

A very thin piece, maybe 1/4" wide & an inch long but it was breaking at least into two pieces as it fell in. I was grinding the bad off & that piece was very thin; I was reaching down to pull it out & it fell in.

Short answer...Stupidity! Sad yet happy story, as it turned out. At some point near the end of the season, the marina I buy gas (& oil) from must have used a contaminated container for oil. They rent a lot of outboards & jet skis that use pre-mixed gas & they sell good grade Quicksilver 2-stroke oil from huge drums. Somewhere, they must have used a container that still had gas in it; not a big deal in a pre-mix engine but the gas 'watered' the oil down enough that it allowed the pistons to create friction, more heat & finally self-destruction. Amazingly, I had an insurance company that chased the root cause, determined that the oil was contaminated & covered it !!! My agent literally said that they don't cover wear & tear but they do cover stupidity! I'll take that...& the check! Since the core block for the M2 alone was $6000 plus pistons, etc., they totaled it & that allowed us to replace the U-boat with a really nice Challenger. With 787 Rotax's that can be replaced for a fraction of that!
