I've got the bigger one off already. In fact, I have even removed the c-clip from under the metal top hat. All I need to do is remove that small clamp on the boot and slide everything off and pull the shaft out.

Any help is appreciated!

pair of lineman pliers or similar, squeeze and twist it to unlock. you'll want a pair of mini nippers to put it back though. i ended up going out to buy a 3 pack of mini pliers from home depot after a bunch of cussing and throwing tools.

I think when I remove mine (once the time comes) I'll try stainless steel tie wraps to refasten b/c no doubt I'll neglect to bring the Oetiker clamps and tools home from the shop. But yep, in a pinch heavy duty pliers and a flat blade screwdriver will remove them.

Ok thanks guys. I'm about ready to pull that engine from the scrap SPX! I may also be picking up that GSX with the blown 787 this weekend to put it in!

Yea mine was a PITA but I used needle nose pliers and yanked and bent it bc I knew I was putting a new boot in anyway..

Then I used a hose clamp as a replacement to the oetiker clamp

Yeah, I'm not sure of using a worm-style hose clamp although perhaps those can be balanced nearly neutral by placing the worm screws 180 degrees from one another.

The plastic zip-ties (nylon I'd suggest) seem to work just fine.

Actually I thought the exact same thing, so I was going to just cut the excess, but then I DID wind up balancing them AND the zip ties (where the zip ties join) 180 degrees away from each other to evenly balance each other

Buy the correct tools and just keep reusing the clamps. There are 2 styles. The one you can open with a screw driver, just insert the driver and give a twist. The other you just clip the pliers into the catches on the clamp, squeeze and the band will come apart. Reverse procedure to put it back on. I can't stand the look of hose clamps and janky cable ties.

The last thumbnail pic is the tool to put the screwdriver twist kind back together properly.

Second buy the right tool, makes reusing them very simple though a decent pair of Knipex pliers will grab the raised clamps to unclamp/reclamp. The right tool for the job though makes it child's play.
