Holder relay question

Just picked up a 1996 XP cranks with 150psi on both cylinders, but no spark.
The coil had a crack in the case in was open when I checked ohms.
Replaced with new coil but doesn't look like the coil is getting power.
so can I just bypass the holder relay by just taking the power in to the relay and just connection it to the output of the relay that goes to the CDI to just bypass to make sure it's not the relay?
I want to check 12v in and out but not sure what wires
I have checked the trigger coil and stator, both check out.
and all my fuses.

any one with a spare CDI I could try?

Im in Greenville SC

Thanks

Normally I wouldn't chime in on machines I don't know too well. Is it a 96 800 xp? If so it's the 787 and my 97 gtx with the same motor has two black wires that land on the battery negative post, if the smaller of the two isn't landed the machine will crank over but you won't get any spark.

Just a wild guess. Ignore it if I'm wrong. Double check for that sneaky little wire. Good luck.

There is a test for the holder relay in the manual. Sounds like you have a Volt/Ohmmeter so do that rather than bypassing things.

checked the relay 103.5 ohms so looks good but how do I check if the mpem to see if it is triggering the holder relay?
I also checked the CDI and got 34K ohms
I did notice when I hooked my volt meter to the battery it was 13.2 and dropped to 11.6 when cranking so not sure if that is to low for the CDI

I can hear the relay clicking, also put my volt meter in the plug coming out of the relay to the CDI and was getting 14 volt with the charger hooked up press the start button relay kicks on and start starts which drops the voltage to 10.7v for a second then up to 11.8v
I need to figure out how to hook my scope so I can see if the CDI is outputting to the coil.
Ug so ready to try this on the water.

Find the red-purple wire that runs from the holder relay to the CDI. There is probably a plug connector for that single wire to allow you to disconnect the holder relay. Leave it connected. If your volt meter has the probes with needle points, you can try to push it into that plug to touch the metal connector on the wire end. You could also push a straight pin or paper clip in to make contact. Be very careful not to let the pin or paper clip short to anywhere else. Connect your voltmeter ground lead to a post in your electrical box that has a lot of black wires connected to it or to your battery negative terminal. You should see the 12 volts be on steady while you are cranking and while it runs.

Thanks it checks out good, still trying to get spark to the plugs
might try a new CDI box, have done everything else
