I hit a rock going around 10MPH. After inspection there is a section around 4 in long by 1/2 wide that lost the gel coat. Is this easy enough to repair or should I take it in for repair? What repair kit do you recommend for DIY? Bottom is black.

Thanks

They sell Gel Coat patch repair kits. Normally for dings and dents kind of things. You can fill it with a quality product then have it repaired over winter.

Thank you. Makes sense to have the shop take care of it when its slow in winter.

It really is easily done with minimal skills required unless it covers a big area or cracks are involved. On my boats and ski's in the past, I've just used denatured alcohol to clean the affected area then used bondo and rattle can spray paint to get me until the winter months. Then do a more complete repair during the cold season.

I used this kit to fix my brother in laws $100k fishing boat four years ago. It didn't color match exactly, but since it was a damaged area about three feet from the stern on the port side, no one can see it anyway.

Thanks guys. Very nice of you to share these links. Just patched it up using a gel coat kit and its almost ready to be sanded. It was easier that I thought. Feels good to DIY :)
