High temp rtv on 717 exhaust

Getting ready to re-install the exhaust manifold and pipe on my 2002 GTI LE...When I took it apart it had this red sealant on all the mounting flanges. Do I have to put that back on along with the new gaskets? And if so what is the proper name for the product? Thanks..

Clean both surfaces. I stone them but all that is needed is they be clean and oil removed from the surface. Gaskets go on dry, no additional sealant necessary.

I like to lightly sand the surfaces by hand, and put a thin layer of high temp orange copper silicone on the mating surfaces.

Thank you , I figured as much. I have two seadoo's and both of them I've found someone has put alot of the orange sealant on both the intake side and the exhaust side. It had gotten down in the ports . I've been cleaning it out and ready for new gaskets. Thanks for the help

It won't happen with the exhaust gaskets but if you put RTV or Silicone on some gaskets... they squish out (extrude). The gasket doesn't bite. I'm not a jet ski guru but I've been doing this a long time and created my own problems a number of times. I have a joke by which I measure things. "If a little bit is good, more is better. If less is good, none is better." It works for a lot of things. I doubt I'm the first one to say that but I'm the first one "I heard" say that. LOL Good Luck !! @POPPS method is fine as well. It obviously works.
