Hi all, hoping someone can give me some ideas on this issue. just recently had my 94 gtx with 650 out and it started to idle high, thought nothing of it untill i got it home and tried to flush the engine when the idle started to run away till i thought i was gonna blow. so i shut it off and adjusted the idle stop screw and that didnt do anything. i have a feeling its time for a carb rebuild when i pulled the rv cover off lots of fuel came out of the intake.

Thanks for any help

carb rebuilding

well i pulled the carbs off tonight, the base gaskets were ok, the needle and seat didnt have grooves, nor did the low speed screws. the thing that i dont understand is were is all this extra fuel coming from?
but besides that im planning on rebuilding the carbs. now the real question i have is should i replace the needle and seat even tho i dont see any damage? what cleaning solution would you recommend using? dunk degreaser, brake cleans, throttle body clean? are those ok to use?
thanks

High speed screws?
Use carb cleaner, but before you do, totally disassemble your carbs. Needle valve, jets, and all. make sure all rubber is removed from carb. Then let soak in carb cleaner and after soaking spray every nook and cranny with carb cleaner. Then pressure test your carbs. Let me know if you dont know how to do this and I will tell you.

Check fuel pump valves operation as follows :
Connect a clean plastic tubing to the inlet nipple
and alternately apply pressure and vacuum with
the mouth. The inlet valve should release with
pressure and hold under vacuum.
WARNING : Some fuel may be present in
fuel pump. Be careful not to swallow fuel
when under vacuum.

Repeat the same procedure at the outlet nipple.
This time the outlet valve should hold with pressure
and release under vacuum.
3, Diaphragm
PUMP DIAPHRAGM LEAK TEST
Using a suitable pump gauge tester, perform the
following test proceeding as follows :
– Install pump gauge tester (P / N 295 000 114)
on pulse nipple.
– Pump tester until it reaches 28 kPa (4 PSI).
Diaphragm must stand pressure for 10 seconds.
If pressure drops, replace diaphragm.

You have to be careful about that runaway engine. i had a kawi 750 do that once and she was at full sing. I ripped the plug wires off and she was still running!!!!! The best way to stop that when it happens is hit the throttle or choke the engine.

Mine turned out to be an air leak...

when i pulled the rv cover off there was lots on gas sitting in where the rotary shaft meets the oil pump gear is that normal? i would have thought it would be filled with oil not gas!!!!!!!:boxing_smiley: anyways just to get through the last few weekends we got here im gonna throw on a spare set of carbs and reseal the intake and see if that changes anything. in thinking the rv cover may need to be machined flat as there is a ridge on one edge.
