I'm new to this forum and I'm having trouble finding any threads on a "how to" on how to change the jet pump grease on a 4 tec. I have a 2004 GTX supercharged if that makes any difference. I would appreciate if someone good point me in the right direction or could be of any help on the topic.
Thanks!

remove pump....remove the allen wrench bolts on cone...tap on side of cone with rubber mallet till loose....remove cone......remove all grease in cone...discard.....replace with any marine grade grease. (I fill mine to almost the top...need some space to seat)....replace all bolts...don't over tighten..easy to crack the cone around the bolts.

A prop removal tool and a bench mounted vice make working on the pump much easier.

Thanks for the response, that really helps! When you say replace all bolts, you mean just the bolts that hold the cone on right? I know I need to remove the reverse gate and some steering linkage in order to get to the pump, I was wondering if you had any tips for that process?

Thanks, appreciate your help.

Yes just remove the steering and reverse bucket linkage then the OPAS linkage and then you get to the 4 pump bolts. Only tip I have is do not over tighten anything. I think he meant replace all bolts in reverse order for re assembly. Everything else is pretty straight forward.

Be careful when removing the 4 nuts from the pump mounting bolts. Lock (hold rock solid) your extension before you begin turning the wrench. If you bend one of the bolts while removing a nut/lock washer/flat washer you won't be able to re-install...It will then require replacement....a big pain in the azz.

As for the steering and nozzle...easy...don't forget to re-install and tighten the clamp around the hose on top of the pump...heh.

Don't forget to use a bit of lok-tite on the threads of everything you re-tighten on the pump.

I changed the grease out today and it was pretty straight forward, the only question I have is when I tightened up all the linkage I tightened everything up snug! I didn't torque them down or anything, I just tightened them until they were nice and tight. Is that correct and how would I know if I over tightened? The steering moves freely as before I just wanted to double check that I did it correctly??

yep....just fine.

Did you get the reverse bucket spring back in place?

Yeah I wrapped a box end wrench around it and pulled it into place.

Thanks again guys for helping me out with that project!
