Help with wear ring

Hi everyone, new here and my first post.

So long story short it's a Seadoo GTX Wakeboard Edition. Started it up on shore one day and sucked up rocks. Brought it into a local shop and had it serviced and they replaced the jet for a whopping $1200 CAD. It ran great afterwards.

Recently out on the lake for a ride I was taking off and parking in shallow areas with a lot of lake weed and must have sucked some debris once again. Had a look through through the back of the impeller and noticed the wear ring looks like it has some nasty grooves but the impeller looks fine (from the back). I'm deciding to tackle this myself this time as I'm good with fixing things and don't have another $1200 to spend on my Seadoo.
Hoping I can get away with a new wear ring as the impeller was replaced not even a month ago.

Any good recommendations on wear rings? Will I need the impeller removal tool as well?
Anything else I should know or do while I have the jet apart?

Thanks!

The impeller does NOT need to be removed to do the job. Yes,,, it is easier, but not required.

Our HOW TO section has both methods (impeller on or off).

I would buy an OEM wear ring, tey really are the best. LouDoo uses another brand which I can NEVER remeber what it is and he has had great luck with them.

Repeat after me...

"I will not operate my ski in shallow water. I will not drive through crap. I will not operate my ski in shallow water. I will not drive though crap."

Repeat as long as it takes to sink in...heh.

;)

Good point,,,

Anything you operate in that is shallow will allow you to suck up WHATEVER is there.. Is is basically like sucking up sand paper,,,

need to have at least 3 ft of water to operate! and then i still don't feel comfortable with that. Ive also seen folks ride up on the beach and if the beach is shallow, i can imagine sand and crap getting packed in the intake grate

I have operated hundreds of times in 3 foot and less. But you need to be at idle or, at plane. The in between is what kills the wear ring. If you accelerate in shallow water the ski leans back and goes deeper, this plus the suction of the impeller can pull even heavy items from the ground under the ski..

Looking from the back of the Seadoo at the impeller, I can see a rock stuck between the blades. The impeller looks okay but assuming it has damage somewhere I can't see. The wear ring has obvious grooves from the rock(s).
Assuming I'll most likely need a new impeller as rocks and metal don't mix, what's your take on the Solas props?
Can I get away with filing any imperfections or would you recommend just getting a new impeller and wear ring and be done with it?
Any extra tools needed other than the impeller removal tool? Anything else I should do while in there? Keep in mind the whole jet was already replaced 2 weeks ago. :(

I will not operate my ski in shallow water. I will not drive through crap. I will not operate my ski in shallow water. I will not drive though crap. Ill keep muttering this to myself when I'm doing the repairs.

Thanks everyone! You are all so helpful.
