Hi,

New to the boating world. I am considering a couple of used Seadoo boats. However, from my searches, it seems like the NADA value is a bit different from the asking price of boats...from a number of sites. How do I determine the right value for it?

Thanks,

Jim

well you can do what I did and I narrowed it down to what kind of boat I wanted year length and what i wanted to do with the boat etc. Then I searched the threads on this site for what people paid for what and it gave me a good idea of what to pay.

I bought a 95 seadoo speedster for 3k and I am very happy with the boat and how much I paid for it .

Same here we looked around here and craig's list and ended up getting a great deal on our 96 speedster, a little under 4k.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am looking at a 2003 Utopia 205 with a 200 Optimax. They have it listed for $14,500. NADA shows it to be $11580 but took $1200 for the smaller engine. Seller owes almost that amount. I don't need to be upside down on a boat right from the start. Does that sound reasonable?

It sounds kind of high to me. One of the members on here Craigmri just purchased a brand new old stock 2007 Utopia 205 with the twin 4tec package for what they are asking for that 03. Look around a bit more, and give a few dealers a call to see what they can do for you on a year or two old model.

Research

Sika,

As stated, I did recently purchase an "Old Stock" 2007 Utopia 205 with the Twin Rotax 4-tec engines. My boat was never in the water till I got it. Mind you my boat was far from "Perfect" but it was a deal I couldnt refuse.

I traveled 500 miles each way to get it but for what I paid I happily made the trip. Apparently when a Seadoo dealer goes out of business BRP will move these units to dealers who want them and these boats get HEAVILY subsidized by BRP. My boat was out of the wrapper for some time as there are some scuffs and slightly faded vinyl and what-not but with a 3 year extended warranty and all applicable sales tax I have under $14,000 in my boat.

It pays to call every dealer within a given radius to inquire what they have. You live up north and I would think this time of year is still hard winter. The dealers are giving them away.

Craig

Repo boat/shipping experience

Thanks for the info! I thought that was the case. Just wanted some confirmation.

I have a line on a 2007 Utopia 205 that is a bank repo in CA. Base model.
No cover, no bimini, and no stereo or speakers. All cushions are there but no tables. 4 hours on the motor. The trailer is missing a fender and the tail-light is damaged. They are asking $14,999 and may take less. I am considering submitting a bid of $13,500.

Anyone bought a repo boat or had one shipped?

I'd pass

Sika,

I would pass on that one if I were you. You wont know what your getting into until you get it. Too much that can go wrong. You should be able to find similar if not better deals closer to home. Your in the frozen tundra and people aren't exactly tripping over themselves to buy boats even in Florida let alone in the middle of winter in Wisconsin. Even if your searches today come up little, next week there may be the deal you've been waiting for. In this market you should be able to get a similar price on something that's complete and you can personally inspect.

Hard winter is right!!! It was 0 degrees today with the wind chill factored in. And I am calling dealers left and right. Crazy that I am looking for a boat at this time of the year. I hope it pays off.

By the way, how do you like your Utopia? Did you consider the Challenger 180? Pros and cons to both?

One of the local has an 08 Challenger 180 and an 08 Utopia SE with the 430 engine. MSRP is $24,500 and $39,400. They really want me to come in before talking price. How much off can I really expect with the rebates and such????...by the way, I do understand they need to make a living.

Thanks to all for their kind input!!:hurray:

I did seriously consider the new Challenger 180. Its a sweet boat however in the end I decided it was a little small. Most of our boating will be in the rivers and lakes but we will on occasion take it into the gulf of Mexico and visit some of the islands off Tarpon Springs. The Utopia 205 was perfect for this and still very trailer able. I've only been out a few times on it but really like it for its size, feature set and performance. I really like the 4-tecs but am beginning to see that maintenance costs will be high providing I have the dealer do all maintenance(mine has twin engines). I'll get into this in a new thread I'm about to create.

As for the pros and cons?

Challenger 180 is newer style, has an awesome instrument cluster and is a good value but it is on the smallish size and doesnt have the cool table that the Utopia 205 has.

Utopia 205 Is a more traditional run-about design but twin engines make performance unbelievable at low speeds and high speeds. Those twin engines pretty much double your maintenance bill however(Unless you perform service yourself).
