I posted a couple of months ago about replacing my trashed jet pump. I had taken my '97 Sportster to a local shop that removed the jet pump and disassembled it and it was junk. I got a rebuilt one from Dominic Grillo at SeaDooSource.com. When I rec'd I took it to the shop and they installed it, test ran it in the shop, and said everything looked good.
That was about 6weeks ago. I finally had the chance to get the boat in the water this weekend (too much work and bad weather to get it in sooner) and it was a disaster! It fired up fine, we idled away from the dock through a long "no wake" zone, and by the time we got to open water I was getting an alarm, a steady tone, and the boat didn't want to accelerate. I shut it off and tried to restart it and it wouldn't start. I opened the engine compartment and it was full of smoke/steam and water was pouring in through a tube coming through the center of the transom, down low. Every time I plugged the key on the alarm would sound. We ended up paddling it back to the dock at least 100yds while the engine compartment and the area under the floor filled with water.
Sorry this is so long, but can anybody offer me some insight? Are these issues related? Is that tube the water was coming through for the cooling system? After reading the owners manual I assume the alarm was the high temperature alarm. I haven't tried starting it or anything since and I'm waiting to hear back from the shop.
Thanks in advance for any info.
