First let me say this is our first watercraft of any kind. It's a 2000 sea-doo LRV
I picked it up about 4 hours ago. We did test it on the water and it seems to run really well. It looks clean and well cared for. However when I was leaving the seller said let me give you the remainder of the oil for it because we wont need it.

I was Horrified to see that what they were using is TCW3.

I have been lurking here and on other seadoo forums since I decided I wanted one and I know that this is not the correct oil. But I am unsure how to change over to the proper oil because of the problems caused by mixing different types of oil.

And since they were premixing I am also concerned that it is not as simple as draining the oil tank. It has about a half of a tank of premixed gas and TWC3 in it right now.

Also I don't know if there is something wrong with the oil injection or if they just prefer to premix. He told me it was just to be safe because the oil pump can go out, which I know is how some people feel. But you know sometimes people just aren't as honest as they should be either. So i'm really not sure on this one.

Is this even something I can take care of myself or should I take it to the shop?

Any advice is appreciated!

Oh and a big NEWBIE Hello to all!
Carrie

Thanks for the fast reply.

I already know what kind of oil should be used I just don't know how to change to the proper oil with this other oil already in the whole system.

I don't want to gum everything up by mixing the oils together.

I guess I posted this at the wrong time (4th of july weekend)

But this did allow me to give more info.
The oil tank and all of the lines have been taken off of this ski. So I guess I know why he was premixing now. And obviously I will be premixing also.
So... Do I need to do anything special about the oil or just use the right kind when I refill the gas tank?

To be safe, I would siphon the old gas out of the tank and start using the right oil. However I doubt the mix of the oils in the fuel tank is as bad as having both in your oil tank due to the dilution.

siphon the gas out and replace with proper synthetic pre mix. that 951 won't last long on outboard oil.

You could turn it back to oil injected, the sytem very, very, very rarely fails. Normally, somebody blames the oil pump for another problem they have like using the wrong oil and then they lose a bearing. If you decide to leave it premix, I'd remove the oil pump and install a block off plate if it hasn't been done already, that's the proper way.

which shop manual

Thank you for your replys.
I would actually prefer to go back to the fuel injection but I would have a lot of parts to buy and install.

Like I said before this is our first watercraft but I used be an auto mechanic so I will probably be working on this one when it needs it.

I have been unable to find a shop manual for the LRV specifically but I know some of the other doos have the 951 motor. Would a shop manual for one of them be applicable to the LRV as far as the motor and oil system goes, and if so which one?

How is the rotary valve gear getting lubricated?

there's not a rotary valve on the 951, it uses reed valves, a much simpler proven system.

you can use the gtx 951 service manuals, it is identical to the LRV for the most part except for longer driveshaft, cable lengths, and location of a few things.

Ski-d00 do you know what year the GTX had the 951 because in the 2000 manual the tech data says it is a 947?
and the manuals don't have any mention of engine size before you download
