A friend wants me to work on his xp. i work on cars and my quad all the time, but never worked on a boat or ski. His run fine like 2 years ago but has been sitting since. ive read the de winterizing thread and figured i would also drain all the gas and clean out the carb, change the oil and coolant. what else should i do? anything i should know about? i just want to get a little info before i dive into it.

Thanks guys

You don't have to worry about changing oil and coolant as it is a 2-stroke, and water cooled from the jet pump. make sure you have a good freshly charged battery. Drain old fuel and replace with fresh fuel. It wouldn't hurt to remove and clean the carbs. Make sure there is ample injector oil in the reservoir. Remove spark plugs and spray a liberal amount of fogging oil into the cylinders. Ground out the spark plug wires on the posts provided either on the cylinder head, or by the electrical box. crank engine over, re-lube, and crank again to ensure that everything is free'd up. insert new, properly gapped spark plugs. Don't run it for more than a second or two unless you have water connected to the flush inlet at the back of the machine, and then no more than 5 mintues so as not to overheat the pump bearings or seals.

Good Luck!

when you say pull the plugs and lube it up, what do i use?

Go to the local Sea Doo store and buy a can of BRP XP-S Anti Corrosive Lube Spray 293600016.

The fuel selector valve is a hand operated three position fuel valve on the left side / middle panel by left leg when sitting on the seat.

ok im going to start tomorrow. got the battery off tonight to charge. will be getting the lube recomended below. two questions though, and these may be easily answered tomorrow when i look it it. But one is about the spark plug wires grounding, where do i need to put them while cranking it over? and is it not good to just leave them hanging. next is about the water cooling, how can i hook it up so i can run it for more than a few seconds? do i just need a barell of water and a hose connected to the "flush inlet"?

thanks guys tomorrow ill be putting on a fresh battery, new plugs, cleaning carbs and fuel selector, sprying the fogging lube through the spark plug holes, and draining and replacing the injector oil. Anything else you can think of?

one more question, how much is this thing worth? The guy would sell for 3500 and i could probably get him to come off of that. its in good condition cosmetically. any idea how much it would be worth if i get it running good?

ss44camaro,
Before I joined this web site I googled shop manuals.

Which part of Amarillo are you from? I grew up south of Amarillo just off Washington on Claude Hwy. I went to Canyon schools and my mom still lives where I grew up. :D
Which lake do you go to? Meridith??

i downloaded a shop manual but the exploded view is not real clear. we go to all the lakes meredith, and greenbelt for 1day trips. and we go to ute lake in new mexico and also lakes down in the dallas area when we have time and money(not to often anymore). this ski is not mine though im just trying to help a friend get it running.

where is the oil injector pump at and the bleed screw?

the battery i took off has been on the charger on the low voltage 2.5amp charge for over 24hours and still wont say full charge. should i try to use it or is it a sign i need a new battery. i would hate to get stuck on the lake with no power.

The oil injector pump is on the front of the motor just above the stator in between the engine and the fuel tank. There is an oil line running from the oil tank through an inline filter (white) to the front of the motor. Just above, where this oil line connects to the motor is a hex head. This hex is the bleed screw. Unscrew it with a towel under it and let all the air bubbles out.
There is also a linkage coming from there (pump) to the carb linkage. If you take a mirror and look there will be two marks, one on the linkage and one on the pump. These marks must line up at the idle setting. If not the pump may not oil properly, especially at idle (no wake)
There will be 2 small lines coming from the pump to each cylinder jug. These lines are what oils the engine. MAKE SURE these lines are not cracked or broken. Important
I would premix the first tank of fuel after all repairs are complete just to be safe. Also while on the trailer and the water hose connected. Start the ski, turn the water on and while letting it idle hole the pump linkage wide open and purge the small lines for no more that 3 to 5 minutes.

The battery has a bad or dead cell in it. I recommend you go to O' Reilys Auto parts and buy a gel battery. They are sealed with gel inside. No spillage.
Good Luck

ok i thought that screw was it but the thing i printed off said 10mm and this one is smaller. im not at the ski anymore so i cant look but do i need an adaptor or anything to hook a water hose to it? how do i get to these carbs to clean them to?

I am not sure on your ski, but I think on the back looking at the jet pump there is a black tube on the upper right side. This tube will accept a garden hose male end. You can go to Home depot and get one of those quick connect garden hose adapters for a couple of bucks.

The carbs are tricky unless you want to remove the exhaust pipe.
When i took my carbs off I kind of slid them down then rolled them out to the right. I wasn't easy but it wasn't earth shattering either.

ok so i got the battery hooked up and tried to turn it over and nothing... put the wrist band thing on, is there something else that needs to be switched on?

The lanyard is all that is needed to attach to get power to the engine. Is the battery fully charged? If your still in doubt about it, go to like Auto Zone and have it LOAD tested. If it has a bad cell or 2 it might show 12 volts but not have the amps, to start the seadoo. Replace it if its not new and your in doubt.

Check the wires at the battery to be sure they have a good clean connection. Follow the ground- cable to the starter area and be sure it too is getting a good clean connection. They might look good but the connector could be corroded inside. If you are in doubt, replace the ends so it has a good connection. You should get 2 beeps for the seadoo to start. The electrical system is really simple with a few things that need attention. The only other things to check if all that I described is good, is the fuses.

all the connections were good. i hooked jumper cables from my car to the battery also and i wasnt getting any power anywhere... ill do more investigation tomorrow

Don't jump start the seadoo from a running vehicle...it will cause more trouble because it will surge the electrical system. If you did, check all the fuses to be sure you didn't blow any. The seadoo has to get 2 beeps before it will do anything...sometimes the beeper goes bad and beeps but you can;t hear it, Hit the start button anyways to see what happens. If it's a bad beeper it might turn over, just no beeps.
